For this exercise, we were required to complete an NMAP scan of our personal network.

The results of the scan are shown here:

The description of each port is as follows:

• Port 554: This is the port utilized by the Real Time Streaming Protocol(RTSP) service. It handles incoming RTSP client connections and delivers data packets to streaming clients.
• Port 9000: Port 9000 is a TCP/UDP port. TCP allows two hosts to connect and exchange data. UDP is used for time sensitive transferring. It is used in situations like streaming and gaming.
• Port 9998: Port 9998 functions similarly to port 9000.

Security Risk Overview:

The ports that are currently open on my network are not included among commonly attacked ports. These ports are being utilized to facilitate user access. However, it is important to note that unsecure ports can pose a security risk. Having open ports and leaving them unmonitored can allow an attacker to gain access to a system or network. For this reason, firewalls are recommended to filter traffic on a network. Additionally, users should ensure that sensitive ports are disabled to prevent unintenitonal access. Routine monitoring and security scans can help mitigate network security risks.
